OPERATION HANDS OFF!

OPERATION HANDS OFF! Crime Prevention by Design Operation Hands Off! is a unique program that involves corporate partners, law enforcement and Crime Stoppers in a coordinated approach to property theft prevention. MicroDotDNA Technology is state-of-the-art identification that allows any asset to be quickly and effectively marked with its own unique 'DNA'. Single inscribed 'microdots' were originally developed by the US military in the 1940s to covertly tag or identify items. Each MicroDot is the size of a grain of sand and is laser-etched with microscopic identification information that is easy for police to trace. Dots are applied by brushing or spraying to an asset using an adhesive that incorporates a trace identifiable to police. Once applied, MicroDots are resistant to most acids, solvents, road salts and heat. Significant damage to the asset would be needed to remove every single MicroDot. ANONYMOUS TEXT TIPS

GUARANTEED ANONYMITY

The "traditional" way to submit a TIP to Crime Stoppers is by phoning the TIPS line - 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

That process is decribed in some detail on our Home Page: a tipster calls in with a tip, is given a code number, to protect his or her identity, and if the information leads to an arrest, the Awards Committee of the Board makes an award decision. All awards are dispensed by a civilian company and no attempt is made to identify the tipster.

We do not subscribe to call display or call trace.

With the rise of the Internet, there is now a new way to submit a tip... online.

Click on the "TIPS Online" icon or the "Submit Your Tip Online" box on the left hand side of this page and on all pages on this site. It will take you to a secure Tip Submit site. Then with a few clicks of the mouse you can enter your tip information into a form.

It is completely anonymous. The form recommends that "you DO NOT print this tip submission form or save it to your computer" and reminds the tipster to "Be sure that you did not give your name above."

HOW TO BE A GOOD TIPSTER

“What You Should Know When You Call Crime Stoppers To Report A Tip?”

1. Crime Stoppers is open to take calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call Crime Stoppers when you are alone so that your anonymity is not compromised. Crime Stoppers does not want to know who you are. If someone hears you making the call, you are no longer anonymous as that person may realize you have called Crime Stoppers. This could also put you in danger.

2. Call Crime Stoppers with information that you are already know of regarding a particular crime. Crime Stoppers does not want you to go out and search for information.

Your tip should come from information that you are already aware of, whether you’ve seen the crime, someone told you about it, or you overheard someone talking about the crime.

3. Have information about the particular crime you are calling about. Information such as: what is the specific crime, date, time, and location of the crime is helpful and needed for further investigation. How many people were involved? Do you know what was stolen?

4. Also helpful, is the description of the person or people responsible for the crime.

Some other things that aid Police is the suspect’s full name. If you don’t have the full name, provide whatever portions of the name you have. If you know of an alias, also give this information to the tip-taker.

A specific home address, phone numbers and/or employment address is also important.

Provide a physical description of the person to the best of your ability, such as gender, race, age, date of birth if you know it, approximate height, weight, hair color, length of the hair, whether they wear prescription glasses or contacts, scars/marks/tattoos, and facial hair. Does the person speak with an accent? Does the person belong to a specific gang? Do you know the name of the gang?

5. Do you know whether a specific weapon was used during the crime? If so, what weapon was used? Can you describe the weapon? Do you know where the weapon can be located?

6. Did the person drive a particular vehicle while committing the crime? If so, do you know the make, model, color, and license plate number of the vehicle?

7. If something was stolen, do you know what it is? Did you see it to be able to provide a description of it? Do you know where the stolen item(s) can be located?

8. Have you noticed a pattern of suspicious activity that could be drug related? Try to give specific information that will assist Police with an investigation, such as: names, address and home phone number, also cell phone numbers, type of drugs, prices, contact names, meeting places, vehicle make/model/license plate numbers, time/day of the week when the activity appears to be the busiest.

As previously stated, Crime Stoppers does not want you to go searching for the answers to these questions. Provide only the information you already know… and Thank You for calling Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to Caller ID or Call Display. All calls and web tips are Anonymous and you can qualify to receive an award.
